Embody: Offerings of Dimensional Soul

Embody: to be an expression of or give a tangible or visible form to an idea, quality or feeling; to provide a spirit with a physical form; to include or contain (something) as a physical part.

The tradition of human representation in art reveals humanity’s fascination with itself. Spare representations of people whose beings were borrowed for this work are rendered simply to express the body in motion. Everything suspends from a single point so that it is free to move. The phenomenon of the miniature to become monumental by sculpting the space around it is observed by viewing from a distance.

How to capture the essence of the moving body, with something that feels as fleeting and ephemeral as the posture itself? The barest breath of a form sculpted nearly from the atmosphere it occupies: a fitting container for the soul…

Once a miracle, plastic succumbed to its own utilitarian usefulness and is now junk. Here this lowly material is exalted to the lofty role of defining the human form. Redemption, transformation, transcendence. Lacking the structural integrity in its constituent parts to easily describe volume, the curves of the body are formed through the intersection of many straight lines by barely shifting the point of origin and insertion. Taut strands spiraling round and round support each other and hug the uneven volumes closely, coaxing the form from the material.

There is wisdom in the body. The soul lives in it. It is not a matter of understanding.
