Installations - Ragnarök Anthropocene

Download the Ragnarök Gallery GuideRagnarök/Anthropocene was a collaborative installation I did with De Lane Bredvik at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. Using imagery and poetry from the Scandinavian myth, we drew attention to our current epoch, the Anthropocene, to raise questions about our responsibilities to our planet and each other. The gods of the Ragnarök story were depicted as translucent forms floating in a field circumscribed by the tale itself written in ancient runes on the walls, that appeared and disappeared as the viewer walked through the exhibit. Also on the walls were “galdrastifir,” protective symbols placed coincidentally with the position of the gods, whose postures imagine them in battlle with the unseen giants of the myth.

Now that we humans, who inherit the earth at the end of the destruction of Ragnarök, have the power to both create or destroy our own world, what are our choices, and what are the consequences of those choices? Ragnarök: Anthropocene ran from July 2017 through January 2018, and received the Best Gallery Exhibit Award of 2017 from the Pikes Peak Arts Council.
